Purdue Trip 2010 Year #8 10/22/2010 I
actually made this page late in 2012.
There are a lot of bad reasons for the long delay. I wasn’t too motivated as 2010 seemed status-quo
coupled with our weakest tailgate ever.
But in making it I realize it is no less entertaining. |
And we’re back! Working the rental condo in Chicago. Working out the strategy for the night |
Enjoying each others company
and… Bourbon. |
Blaze and Terry research
restaurants and bars for our night in Chicago. |
Oke is getting ready to party. |
Heading out
for the night… |
Normally not a fan of public
transportation, but apparently it was a straight shot to our destination. |
And our destination is
Ditka’s! Flashback! In 2004 The Coach was in the
house. |
And in 2010 The Coach was in
the house! |
Not exactly sure where we
ended up that night, but here is me with the coach again. Oke unimpressed. |
Standard stumble home though… |
Speaking of standards… Here is the Salt N’ Pepper Diner which has become a standard. Usually a great place to prep for the trip south to Purdue.
And it’s another place to make
bad decisions for the trip south to Purdue. Like multiple milkshakes. |
Bob, who has become a lead
suspect in the “Cherry, Straw, Penis” joke of years past seems to have an
idea occur to him. |
Jump to morning? Never.
We’re back at the Holiday Inn in Lafayette which puts us a hefty walk
to Purdue. So it’s time to rest up. |
And cool the beers with our
our standard Room AC-Refrigerator combination Beer Cooler - 2009 |
And it’s off to Harry’s |
First, we cross the same
bridge that we crossed in our first year.
Blaze takes a posterity photo of the tree he “bogged”, now several
years older but still damaged from infamous day. |
Bob going for
the midnight bog -2006 |
Bob’s
reenactment - 2007 |
Harry’s never disappoints. |
Especially Goose! OKE – GOOSE –JAKE |
BOB – GOOSE – TERRY |
GOOSE |
And there it is. Come back from the bathroom and just laying
on the bar is the old “cherry-straw-penis” joke. And really nobody is around. |
Bob is several feet away
interviewing for sales and marketing interns. |
Goose as well. |
New candidate. |
I do remember this was a late
night for us. Bob and Oke working hard
to shut down Harry’s. |
Oke rocking the Affliction
Chicago Series. |
More sales and marketing? Sort of… if you count biscuits and gravy at
Triple-XXX! |
Is it that time already? The pre-game beer run at Bar Barry. Terry has his beer selection
game face on deciding between cases and 30 packs. |
But we
have a much bigger problem. As we drive past the Breakfast Club ruins,
the stark reality of our 2010 tailgate plan hits us. We have none. No Dustin, no Russ, no tailgate. |
We press on. |
And you know what? Maybe it’s not so bad. We plant our only tailgating material
(beer) down near our usual spot and make ourselves at home. |
It’s like a campsite made out
of beer. |
And then… Terry goes to
utilize a spare case as a “seat” and suddenly it blows out sending Terry and
contents flying. Worst tailgate of the Purdue
series. This felt like rock bottom. Here is the problem. We have a long history of solid
tailgates. Check out this flashback
from the late 1990’s: Did you see Oke? And here I am. Sitting on a cooler. Not some bullshit beer case. Anyway… back to 2010. |
Bob is pissed about this
“tailgate”. |
Oke is pissed
too. |
Terry taking
it in stride after his blowout. |
I’m doing ok for two
reasons. First, you can see in back
we’re slowly inching our campsite towards someone else’s real tailgate. |
Also, Goose Man is on the move.
Ya. It’s weak tailgate that we can take over. |
Oke still daydreaming of
remarkable tailgates of years past. |
And Terry is kinda pissed
again, so we just take off. |
Returning to Harry’s, Terry
and I look a little worn. |
But Bob and Oke are ready to
tackle Harry’s. |
And we do. It’s hard to recall this
night. But, there are solid
indications of a long night in these pictures, which are in chronological
order. Above, we’re downstairs front
bar. Below, we’re upstairs. |
Then downstairs back bar. |
Then front
bar again. |
And Bob is
back interviewing interns again. |
Upstairs.
Downstairs front bar.
Downstairs back bar. |
I am not sure if those are
Goose’s Glasses |
Definitely not Bob’s. |
Downstairs front bar. Bob with Purdue basketball player Robbie
Hummel.* *I had to Google it. |
Goose can’t believe it. |
Bob back at the interview process – Downstairs back bar.
Intern candidate’s friend is
not happy. Time to go. |
To TRIPLE-XXX Typically, this would probably
be the last picture of the collection. |
But this year there are a few
extras… Standard morning stop at the
store for some Purdue merchandise in the morning. |
The drive back to Chicago. |
Terry does his “Angel Halo”
trick while (remarkably) having a final beer in the airport. |
